Gregg Federal Release Path

A published U.S. Marshals detention-services agreement supports federal use of Gregg County jail space. It does not turn the county jail into a BOP prison, and it does not prove that every old contract term remains current. County staff can document when a federal detainee left Gregg custody. The destination determines the meaning.

“Released to USMS” marks a custody transfer. During the pretrial stage, use the federal case docket and a properly framed USMS records request because the Marshals Service has no public historical release locator like BOP. After designation or sentence, search the BOP inmate locator by BOP, DCDC, FBI, or INS number, or by name and identifying filters.

BOP states that “RELEASED” means no longer in BOP custody. A past release date with no facility also indicates release from BOP custody. Neither result excludes state, local, immigration, or federal supervision. Pre-1982 federal records may require the National Archives.

Gregg Jail Release System

Gregg County’s adult jail is one custody system with three documented buildings: South Jail at the courthouse complex, North Jail on West Whaley Street, and Marvin A. Smith Corrections Facility near Kilgore. The Sheriff’s visitation page names all three. Housing can change while the booking and sheriff custody remain active. A person removed from a South Jail list may have gone to North Jail or Marvin A. Smith. That is an internal placement, not a release event.

The booking number is therefore more useful than the last known bed location. Ask whether the booking is still open, which building now houses the person, and whether the record has a release date, release type, and destination. The sheriff’s custody record is the best source for the exact physical event. A court order may authorize release, but it does not prove processing ended or that no other hold remained.

Gregg Jail Release Destinations

A Gregg County Jail release can lead to several very different destinations. Bond, personal bond, dismissal, a court order, time served, or completion of the county sentence may permit a community release. The actual label must come from the booking record. A changed bond amount or favorable docket event is context, not proof that the jail door opened.

Other entries mark a handoff. “Released to TDCJ,” another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or ICE means the sheriff stopped holding the person because another custodian took control. A hospital move under guard can work the same way. The next search belongs with the receiving agency. Death ends custody but must not be described as release.

Confirm a Gregg Jail Release

The official Jail Division page is the safe starting point because it supplies the sheriff’s own Jail Inmate Search link. Gregg County does not publish a verified, separately labeled recent-release feed. The current Odyssey portal also offers Jail Records, Jail Bond Records, and Criminal Case Records, though vendor access can redirect or fail. A failed screen is an access result. It is not evidence of release.

1. Collect the full name, date of birth if lawfully known, arrest date, arresting agency, booking number, and court cause number.
2. Follow the sheriff’s jail-search link and check the same identity. A current match usually points to a current or searchable booking.
3. Search the Gregg Odyssey portal for jail, bond, and criminal-case records. Read each event in context.
4. Call the central jail line at 903-236-1755. Ask for the booking-level release date, type, and destination, not just the last building.
5. Request the written release record when exact proof is needed, then contact a receiving custodian shown on the record.

A missing roster result is not enough. The person may have been released, transferred, booked under a variant name, or omitted because the public interface is unavailable. Note: A bond entry authorizes a path but does not prove posting, hold clearance, or completed physical release processing.

Gregg Jail Release Record

A useful request identifies an existing booking rather than asking staff to investigate a broad question. Include the person’s full name, date of birth when appropriate, booking number, arrest date, and suspected release date. Ask for the booking sheet, release date and time, release authority or type, destination or receiving custodian, bond or court authorization, charge and cause links, and booking photograph if public.

The sheriff’s general web form warns against sending sensitive facts in plain text.

Texas Public Information Act timing means prompt production within a reasonable time. It does not guarantee completion in ten business days. If production will take longer than ten working days, the body supplies a reasonable availability date. Costs depend on the actual request. Gregg County has not published a fixed release-record fee, so ask for electronic delivery and an estimate rather than assuming a price.

Release authority

The bond, court order, sentence event, or agency action authorizing the custody change.

Release destination

The community or the agency receiving custody.

Detainer

A request or hold that can prevent community release or cause transfer.

Discharge

Completion of the custodial or sentence status described by the issuing agency.

Gregg Jail Records Contact

Sheriff Maxey Cerliano’s office lists the courthouse location and a central number for jail questions. The office is stated to operate around the clock, but the official pages do not promise public release-processing hours. Texas rules place ordinary sentence-discharge releases in a daytime window, while bond and specified transfer events can occur at other times.

Callers should ask a precise custody question: “Did booking number X end, at what time, under what release type, and to what destination?” Staff may need identifiers to distinguish people with similar names. For a certified court order or judgment, use the District Clerk for district and felony matters or the County Clerk for county-level matters. The jail release log remains the stronger evidence of the physical handoff.

Gregg Jail Federal Transfers

Gregg County has documented use of county jail space under a U.S. Marshals detention-services agreement. That local fact makes federal transfers especially important. A record stating “released to USMS” is not a finding that the person entered the community. It means Gregg County custody ended and federal custody began or resumed.

Pretrial federal custody is best traced through the federal case and the Marshals Service. After sentence and designation, use the BOP inmate locator. BOP explains that a past release date with no facility means release from BOP custody, but it does not rule out state, local, immigration, or supervision authority. A narrowly framed USMS information request can seek records when no public locator answers the pretrial transfer.

No current dedicated ICE detention contract was verified for Gregg County. ICE remains a possible receiving agency when a detainer is executed. Search the ICE Online Detainee Locator only after the sheriff record indicates that path. ODLS includes current detainees and some people released from ICE custody within the prior 60 days, has exclusions, and can lag.

Note: USMS, BOP, and ICE are separate systems; one agency’s no-result does not answer the other agencies’ custody questions.

Gregg Jail Property After Release

Gregg County’s published property policy can make the release or transfer date important even after custody has changed. Once a person enters population, property release is all or none. A designated representative with photo identification may collect transfer property when the receiving agency will not take it, subject to the local process. Clothing may be held unless supervisory approval applies.

The property officer is listed at 903-236-1776. Weekday pickup windows are 8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 5 p.m. Property remaining 30 days after release or transfer is handled as unclaimed under policy. Confirm the actual custody-change date and current instructions before arranging a trip. The policy governs property handling, not proof of community release.

Gregg Jail Facility Roles

The South Jail, North Jail, and Marvin A. Smith Corrections Facility serve as parts of the adult sheriff system. The official materials do not establish a separate public release archive for each building. Central booking and release confirmation are therefore more reliable than assuming each address maintains a distinct public record desk.

South Jail sits at the courthouse complex. North Jail is close to a suggested Longview Transit stop, but neither transit nor the sheriff promises pickup service or a release exit. Marvin A. Smith is on Floyd Wingo Drive near Kilgore, outside the documented Longview route context. Families should verify the actual building only after staff confirm that a true release, rather than an internal move, is ready or complete.
